Legal Help & Citizenship

Introduction Image

Legal Help

California funds programs at community based organizations that help immigrants and refugees who live in California. The programs offer many types of free legal services, as well as information about other services that support immigrants. These organizations can teach you about your rights and some can also give legal advice on how to change your immigration status.

Become a U.S. Citizen

If you are a permanent resident with a Green Card, you may qualify to become U.S. citizen through "naturalization." There are many benefits to U.S. citizenship. U.S. citizens have the right to vote and run for public office. They can also apply for a U.S. passport. We encourage you to find out if you qualify to become a U.S. citizen and learn more about what you need to do to apply.
